The Toledo Rockets football season came to a sad end in December. We were blessed by Coach Candle when he decided to stay on as Toledo’s HC. There are even brighter days on the horizon for Toledo football, and you best believe #RocketPower is going to be back and better than ever come football season.

But this emergency #RocketPower blog is not about the football team. It’s not about Logan Woodside and Ola Adeniyi getting invited to the NFL Combine. It’s not about Terry Swanson being the next Kareem Hunt in the NFL. It’s not about the plethora of recruits that Toledo has landed this offseason. No. This is about a different kind of #RocketPower. This is about that hardwood #RocketPower – Toledo Basketball.

That’s right. Toledo’s men’s basketball team is laying waste to everyone in their path this season. Head coach Tod Kowalczyk has led the Rockets to a 17-7 record and 3-game lead in the MAC West so far this year. The New Coach K also has the Rockets just one game behind Buffalo for the best record in the entire MAC. The Rockets would currently be the 2 seed in the MAC tournament. Last year, Toledo finished the season 17-17 and 9-9 in the MAC. This year, they already have 17 wins and already have 9 MAC wins. Is the New Coach K the best coach in college basketball? I’m not sure anyone else could turn a team around like this.

The Rockets also have four players averaging double digits in points per game this season – Tre’Shaun Fletcher (18.8), Jaelan Sanford (16.8), Nate Navigato (12.0), and Luke Knapke (10.9). Talk about firepower, am I right?! Fletcher, who sat out in 2016-2017 after transferring from Colorado, has been an all around monster also averaging 9 boards and 4 assists per game. This roster is loaded with talent as exhibited by the balanced attack Toledo has killed teams with this year.

The MAC tournament is in Cleveland every year. This year, the tournament is March 7-10 at Quicken Loans Arena. There’s never been a better year than this one to make the trip up to Cleveland and cheer on the Rockets. I firmly believe this team can win the MAC and pull off an upset or two in the NCAA tournament if they can earn that automatic bid. Toledo is no longer just a football school, folks. #RocketPower is now spreading into multiple sports. Toledo Basketball is here, and The New Coach K is going to lead them to the promised land!

Oh and one last thing – Toledo beat the bloody hell out of BG 101-75. Just a good old fashioned Battle of I-75 ass whoopin’.
